Winter 2011...Samaritan Group, Inc. opens its Emergency Winter Shelter
press release.pdf

With little resources, Samaritan Group has been operating its three month Emergency Winter Shelter out of local community churches on a rotating basis for several years. Guests are referred to resources throughout our community to help them with transportation needs and to continue their routine of work and school.
Last winter from January through March 2010, Samaritan Group provided almost 300 bednights for 24 guests, three of whom were children. Eight hundred ten hot and packed meals were prepared for guests.
The non-profit works closely with other Kent County organizations such as the Department of Social Services, local churches, the Salvation Army and the Good Neighbor Fund. Under their Local Outreach Program, the Samaritan Group assists people in paying utility bills, rents, mortgage payments, medications, gas and food, among other items.
With the economic downturn, the Samaritan Group sees a burgeoning guest population and thus a critical need for more funding to provide basics such as shelter and food. To find out how to donate to the organization or to volunteer visit: Samaritan Group.
